Women the Podcast

Our Living Journal’s Editor in Chief, Abbie J. Benson, was interviewed by the super talented Alexa Kolbe. You may recognize her name as one of OLJM writers. Alexa has allowed us to share some of her homesteading wisdom in a few or our journal entries and we are so very blessed that she has!

We all have a story to tell & we all have a purpose here on this earth.

Alexa Kolbe ~ WOMEN

On WOMEN The Podcast, Alexa has created a space for others to share their stories with others to show that it doesn’t matter your past, background, looks, or amount of times you’ve changed your mind, you can get over your fears & accomplish your goals.

Chatting with Alexa is always so encouraging. I was humbled by her invitation to be a guest on her podcast. What an honor!

Abbie J. Benson | Editor in Chief | Our Living Journal Magazine

Listen to them chat about the question “How we can be in business if we’re not genuine about our intentions”. Abbie talks about how life definitely doesn’t stop when owning a business. How she went from wanting to be single & traveling around the world to falling in love, having children & realizing along the way the slow, homesteading life was the better path God had for her.

It’s incredible to see this shift in almost every human being I encounter on a daily basis. Everyone is equipping themselves to be mindful and educate themselves and everyone around them. As if being as intune with their peers health is just as important as being intune with their own. It’s just amazing. I feel like we all should be walking around giving each other high fives or fist bumps.

About Our Living Journal

Living Life With Purpose on Purpose

Finding Beauty in Everything

Imagine having recipes, gardening tips, diy, homesteading, and testimony all at your finger tips. Where living a life of purpose on purpose is celebrated and shared. That dear friend is exactly what Our Living Journal Magazine is all about.

As our homesteads and daily lives grow organically so is Our Living Journal Magazine. Three years in the making and fervent praying it finally came to fruition and will continue to grow as our Editor & Chief with her TEAM beside her, learns and grows along with it.

I wanted to create a place or thing people can pick up and be inspired to live out their lives with the purpose set before them.

Our lives out at the home place is a constant learning experience. By the grace of God we have been given this land, these animals, this house, the people who dwell with in, to be the best stewards we can be this side of heaven.

I want the content of this magazine to inspire, comfort, and encourage you to live your life with purpose on purpose.

– Abbie

Our Living Journal Magazine is a quarterly homestead/lifestyle publication that is available online through our site SHOP and at select locations.

Our Values

Chilly Winter Morning Greetings

We concentrate on keeping our content wholesome and edifying to anyone that comes across our magazine.

Time is fleeting. Frugalness gives our resources intrinsic purposes. Preparation for daily life and our futures is something we all strive to be intentional about.

Being a good steward of everything we have been blessed with.

Life starts at home. It is our mission field.

Living our best lives isn’t our concentration. Living our lives with purpose on purpose is.

Our Missionary

Here at Our Living Magazine we have a love for the Lord & get excited when stories like LeAnn’s touches our lives. We are all called to be missionaries. It’s true. Some of us are called to be missionaries in our own homes, in our communities, states, or further from home like our friend LeAnn. In her own words…

Don’t be afraid of being a missionary, be afraid of not being one.

-Leann Harris-

LeAnn has been called to do missions over the pond in Kenya, Africa. We are beyond blessed to team up with her and join her mission efforts. Here is her story. Be sure to grab yourself the latest Our Living Journal to see what God is doing in LeAnn’s life.

Hello, my name is LeAnn Harris. I’m a follower of Jesus, living and serving Him in Kenya Africa. I love sharing Jesus with people and talking to them about the hope and new life that He brings when they trust in Him. I look forward to sharing my stories of His love, grace and mercy, along with the many blessings, encouragements and sometimes tears and sadness as He leads me to where He wants me to be. I always say “the moment you trust Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins, you become a missionary”. So where is the Lord leading you? Don’t be afraid of being a missionary, be afraid of not being one.

Blessings,

LeAnn

GO

My story:

I grew up in a small town in Nebraska…in a non-Christian home. My whole life I didn’t know who Jesus was. I did believe there was a God and if I was a good person I would get to heaven, but that is where my knowledge of Him stopped.

I trusted Christ at the age of 30 and my life has never been the same. About 1 year after I was saved, the Lord gave me the opportunity to go to Kenya, Africa and stay with my brother, Brad and Ellie Harris who were missionaries there at the time. The Lord used that trip to stir my heart for foreign missions, and it was my desire to go back to Kenya from the moment I left.

I attended Frontier School of the Bible to grow in my relationship with Jesus and to better understand how to teach the Bible. It was during that time the Lord taught me and molded our relationship and my desire to return to Kenya only grew. I was able to do an internship with my brother Brad and sister in law Ellie in Kenya for 7 months. After that time I was convinced I wanted to serve the Lord and His church in Kenya.

The Lord has given me a love for Kenya and her people. I’m teaching the women in local Bible teaching churches how to study the Bible on their own so they can have a personal relationship with Jesus and His Word. It is my prayer that they will learn how to walk with Jesus and to share is good news, as well as learn that they too can teach others so they can teach others.  (II Timothy 2:2).

My mission in life is to be able to love and encourage the people of Kenya and people wherever I am…by sharing about the saving grace of Jesus Christ found in the gospel. It is my desire to be able to bring glory to the Lord and to shine His light in the dark places. I hope to be able to teach and disciple while making lasting friendships.  I have come to know that this life is not my own and that I have to live by faith wherever the Lord sends me. I want to encourage Kenyans and people all over the world to do the same.

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
